Havranek Memorial Scholarship Awarded to 3 Junior Coaches

Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio (GOTRNEO) announces the recipients of the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship for 2024. This scholarship program is awarded to high school graduates who have served as Junior Coaches for Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio and exemplify the GOTR mission, vision and values.

ABOUT THE SCHOLARSHIP

Emily Havranek served as a Junior Coach with Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio. She loved that she was able to use running to connect to the elementary school girls in her community and believed strongly in our mission to help girls transform into confident young women. She had so much passion for mentoring the girls, knowing personally how difficult adolescence could be. Sadly, Emily was taken by the pressures of life and left us all too soon.

In 2020, knowing Emily’s passion for the Girls on the Run mission, her parents Rob and Suzanne, started the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship Fund to support the Junior Coach program and provide scholarship funds for college bound seniors who have served as Junior Coaches. It was their daughter’s dream to inspire young girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident and, through this Scholarship Fund, she will leave a lasting impact on the program she cared for and the Junior Coaches that follow in her footsteps by mentoring the next generation.

At Girls on the Run, we envision a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. The Junior Coach program provides high school students with a fun and rewarding way to get involved with Girls on the Run. Paired with a Mentor Coach, high school girls aged 16-18 years old are given an opportunity to grow their leadership skills while serving as role models to program participants in 3rd-8th grade.

This year, GOTRNEO is proud to announce that three winners were selected to receive the Emily Havranek Memorial Scholarship, each in the amount of $500. The three scholarship recipients are:

Anna Santee, Avon Lake High School

Brianna Cortez, Mayfield High School

Grace Dies, Copley High School

Each of these applicants embody the values of Girls on the Run and have made a positive and lasting impact on the youth in their communities through their dedication as a Junior Coach.

The Girls on the Run Junior Coach program is now open to applications for the fall 2024 season. If you’d like to learn more about becoming a Junior Coach program, please visit https://www.gotrnortheastohio.org/junior-coach.
